Welcome to "Sent From My iPad" a brand new technology/teaching blog to help capture my transition from classroom teacher to ITRT (Instruction Technology Resource Teacher)! As Pinterest has made the blogging community come alive for me I figured I should start the 2012-2013 school year out on the right foot, with a blog. I've always had a classroom site (SchoolNotes or Fusion) so this should be "easy" right?!
Let me first tell you a little bit about myself to get us started before the real "work" begins! I am originally from NY (no, not the city and not upstate NY, western NY, south of Buffalo where it really SNOWS). My BS is in Early Childhood Education from SUNY Fredonia which I received in 2007. Following graduation I moved to NOVA (Northern Virginia) to persue my teaching career! I have been happily teaching 1st grade and integrating technology into my classroom as much as possible over the past 5 years with no intention of changing position E-V-E-R. In May I became certified with my Master's Degree in Special Education, so you're thinking I took a job in special education right, well not so fast! This year I am taking on a new position as the ITRT at an amazing school where I call home and there is technology in every corner that you look! Where do I begin with the technology resources that we have at our fingertips... a SMART Board in every classroom, 5-8 computers per classroom, 1 Flip Camera per teacher, 1 or more iPad per teacher, 1cart of 30 iPods per grade level, 3 stationary computer labs and SEVERAL; as in I lost count of mobile laptop labs, document cameras, a TV production studio, the list just keeps going! With all of this at my fingertips technology has really become a second passion to teaching so it is only fitting that I mix the two together! I work with some VERY dedicated and forward thinking educators and hope to really help our school move towards 21st century digital classrooms!
On a more personal note, I was recently married, as in if I tell you the date you may think I am a nerd and wonder why I am not fast asleep in my husbands arms (7.28.12). We were married in the Outer Banks of North Carolina which is one of my favorite places in the world! The weekend was perfect and I couldn't have married a more amazing man. We just bought a house in December of 2011 and have two small puppies, Lilly and Gremmy!
That's all for my first post! As I begin to prepare for the 2012-2013 school year I will be posting updates, ideas and resources! Please leave questions, comments and any tips you may have for a great blog or new ITRT! Looking forward to sharing my experiences and knowledge as I make this giant leap of faith from a job I so desperately love to the unknown!
